Fidelity of yellowfin tuna to seamount and island foraging grounds in the central South Atlantic Ocean

چکیده

The yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) is a widely distributed, migratory species that supports valuable commercial fisheries throughout their range. Management of requires knowledge movement, mixing and key life history parameters such as growth rate, natural mortality. Current management based on the assumptions highly populations are well mixed, but these have been questioned by recent studies. Since November 2015, tagged with conventional, archival pop-up satellite tags (PSAT) in South Atlantic Ocean around St Helena, goal better understanding movement patterns ecology this region. Conventional were attached to 4049 (size range 24–158 cm fork length, FL), PSAT deployed 15 inshore Helena waters 95–138 FL) 7 125–140 at Cardno Seamount, 48 69–111 FL). Most remained within 70 km release location, suggesting degree retention Although displacement was generally low, furthest distance travelled between recapture location 2755 km, other also displaying large-scale movements. Tagging revealed connections regions seamounts, links fishing putative spawning grounds Gulf Guinea.

Stock assessment of yellowfin tuna in the western and central Pacific Ocean

Yellowfin tuna, an important component of tuna fisheries throughout the WCPO, are harvested with a diverse variety of gear types, from small-scale artisanal fisheries in Pacific Island and southeast Asian waters to large, distant-water longliners and purse seiners that operate widely in equatorial and tropical waters. Purse seiners catch a wide size range of yellowfin tuna, whereas the longline...

Cpue Standardisation for Bigeye and Yellowfin Tuna in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean

Executive summary Indices of catch per unit effort are presented for bigeye and yellowfin tuna in the WCPO from 1952 to 2009, based on analyses of aggregated Japanese distant water longline data. One change was made to the methods for estimating indices of abundance for the bigeye and yellowfin stock assessments, with removal of the targeting indicator based on CPUE of other species. This chang...

Different residence times of yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares, and bigeye tuna, T. obesus, found in mixed aggregations over a seamount

Aggregations of tuna can be found in association with seamounts throughout all the tropical oceans and these aggregations are often exploited by tuna fishing fleets (Fonteneau, 1991). In Hawaii, a fishery has developed over the last decade that targets the mixed species aggregations of predominantly subadult tuna found in association with the Cross Seamount located approximately 160 nmi south o...

Comparative Influence of Ocean Conditions on Yellowfin and Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Catch from Longlines in the Gulf of Mexico

Directed fishing effort for Atlantic bluefin tuna in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), their primary spawning grounds in the western Atlantic, has been prohibited since the 1980s due to a precipitous decline of the spawning stock biomass. However, pelagic longlines targeted at other species, primarily yellowfin tuna and swordfish, continue to catch Atlantic bluefin tuna in the GOM as bycatch. Spatial a...
